Classes
BAND & PERCUSSION
Instruction is given by either the band director, the assistant or a high level student.
Beginning Band
Beginning Band is designed for students who have little or no prior musical experience. Children can choose to play a variety of instruments: including flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone. Note by note, they learn how to read music and play while listening and blending with the others in the band. Basic theory is taught in a fun-filled and welcoming atmosphere.
This class are offered several times per week at Anchor Baptist Church, Cornerstone Church and Village Bible Church.
Beginning Drums
OCMA teaches a beginning drum class for any of our musicians who want to strengthen their rhythmic skills, expand their musicianship or they just plainly want to play the drums. It's really fun as the class works on various drumming patterns, learns a few tricks, and prepares a performance piece for the spring concert.
This class is offered at Cornerstone Church and Village Bible Church.
Intermediate Band
Intermediate Band is a band for students who have completed beginning band. Students will continue on the same instrument they learned in Beginning Band. Students will continue to build on the skills that they learned in Beginning Band.
This class is offered at Cornerstone Church and Village Bible Church.
Concert Band.
Concert Band is a “middle” school level band for students who have completed beginning band. Basic requirements to be in this level include the ability to play several scales on a wind instrument and be proficient in reading music.
This class is offered at Anchor Baptist Church, Cornerstone Church and Village Bible Church.
The band performs regularly at the Orange County Youth Expo, Anaheim Christmas Tree Lighting Festival, Tustin Tiller Days and several performances at senior centers and community events.
Advanced Band - Alpha Winds
The Alpha Winds is the advanced ensemble of winds and rhythm that tackles more challenging music which includes contemporary, classical and jazz pieces.
This class is offered at Village Bible Church on Wednesdays.
This group performs 10 to 15 times a year including long-standing appearances at the Bella Terra Amphitheater, Tustin Street Fair and the Tustin Tiller Days
STRINGS
BEGINNING STRINGS
Children​ learn how to play violin, viola, cello or bass focusing on good technique, music theory and ear training. For children younger than 7 they can start in our "Early Strings" where the pace is more comfortable. These young musicians will learn to play in several keys and be ready for intermediate strings the following year.

INTERMEDIATE STRINGS
Students are instructed to give great attention to tone, scales, counterpoint and preparing pieces to perform for Christmas and Spring.

ADVANCED STRINGS - CHARIS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Our advanced orchestra has a wide and diverse repertoire from interpretations of hymns and classical pieces, to folk songs, Irish jigs and fiddling tunes. Members join by auditioning with the teacher of the class.
This class is offered at Bethel Baptist Church and in Lake Forest.
The Charis Chamber Orchestra performs throughout Orange County, and enjoys a great reputation among musicians as a thoroughly enjoyable ensemble to be a part of.
CHILDREN'S MUSIC & CHOIR
Our Children’s Choir trains young musicians not just to sing, but to read music, vocalize properly, practice ear training, site sing, and most of all to have fun thrilling audiences with great music... ultimately enriching their lives.
MUSIC FUNDMENTALS
For​ the youngest of aspiring musicians, Music Fundamentals provides fun, easy and educational experiences to introduce children to the world of music. Simple theory and technique are taught as they begin to read music and explore a variety of instruments in a small class environment.

BEGINNING / INTERMEDIATE - KINGDOM SINGERS
Our Kingdom singers ensemble is designed for young students who love to sing. In a fun and engaging setting students will learn about their speaking and singing voices, work on pitch matching with unison melodies, how to blend, and follow a conductor. This choir is also preparation for singing with our Magnum Singers.
This class is offer at Anchor Baptist Church, Reverence Bible Church and Village Bible Church on Mondays.
ADVANCED - MAGNUM SINGERS
Our Magnum singers are an audition only choir where students will learn how to listen to each other, read vocal scores with repertoire sung in three and four part harmonies. We also work on site reading and vocalization. Students will explore diverse repertoire from around the world.

Marching Arts
Sound Waves Home School Marching Bands
The award winning Sound Waves Homeschool Marching Band is the west coast’s only homeschool marching band. The members range in age from elementary grades to seniors in high school. They learn the art of playing while marching in formation and performing drill. The Sound Waves march in parades and field show competitions including the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival, Seal Beach Christmas Parade, Lompoc Flower Festival, a 4th of July Parade, and the California State Band Championships.
There is an additional fee for this class/activity.
Drumline
The OCMA Independent Drumline is part of OCMA Marching Arts. This drumline is comprised of drummers and musicians who are focused on putting together an exciting indoor percussion spectacular. In competition with other high schools, OCMA Independent consistently places in the top 10 of its field.
Indoor Drumline is a combination of a marching battery of drums and a wide variety of stationary pit instruments.
